Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students come from challenging environments where aggression is often the answer to many problems. A lot of our students have issues related to anger and disrespect. Some of them have trouble interacting appropriately with one another, teachers, and administrators. These students have sometimes gone through some type of trauma, a divorce, or been the victims of abuse or neglect. Our district is 100% free lunch for all students.

My students come from high crime and poverty-stricken areas.

Views of violence is an everyday incident. Basic necessities are not often a given. This includes hygiene products. My students with special needs often feel as if no one notices them or acknowledges their positive behavior. My students need multiple opportunities to learn in many different ways.

My Project

I want my students to be able to use Chromebook laptops daily to engage in web quests, create Google notebooks and research topics being discussed. I want them to be able to see both primary and secondary documents as well as hear oral history first hand. Seeing and creating these items will spark their imagination and hopefully lead to further exploration.

Most importantly I want my student to become more comfortable with technology as it is my hope that all students are either college bound or transitioning into life career goals and these computer and technology skills will be an asset.

We also will use the art supplies to create political cartoons, graphs, charts and maps to be displayed on the walls. My principal has asked us to display student work and I feel that this will help create their great masterpieces.
