On August 25, 2017, our school and community were devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Our students were forced to live in alternate housing and attend other schools while our community struggled to get back on its feet. Just six short weeks later, thanks to the hard work of countless people, our school reopened in portable buildings. Even though we were surrounded by destruction, debris, and rebuilding, our students remained strong and dedicated to our school district. If I had to describe my students with one word, it would be resilient.
During this time, my students were the reason I got out of bed every morning.
I needed them as much as they needed me. They came to school with smiles on their faces and hope in their hearts. They overcame adversity every single day and pushed through one of the most difficult times of all of our lives. These children are strong, courageous, survivors who also learned to give to others even in their own time of need.
My Project
I am asking for some basic art supplies for our school. While our school has received many wonderful, generous donations, we have not received items I am asking for such as specific colors of paper, paint, and a drying rack for student's artwork.
Lets make the arts a priority in our curriculum.
Fine arts are an essential part of a student's education, and these supplies will allow students to express their creativity and fulfill the visual art component of our program. In addition to specifically helping students during art class, these supplies will also benefit other teachers with projects in their classrooms and bulletin boards.
