Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 24 of the smartest, most creative transitional kindergarten students on the planet. They are all eager to learn and always ready for the next learning adventure. Our school is located just east of Los Angeles in a predominantly Latino community. More than half of our student population qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch. Most parents are hardworking people trying their best to provide all their children need to succeed in school. Volunteer hours and support at home are what many families can and do give. Unfortunately, monetary support for the school is not possible for the majority. Our community also has the largest population of foster children in Los Angeles County. Many grandparents on fixed incomes are taking the responsibility of raising their grandchildren. With more and more cuts to our school budget, we teachers struggle to provide the basic needs of our students. Please help us do just that. We are a Title I school, and a significant number of our students are English learners.
My Project
Children love to be read to. Storyline time is when the magic happens. This is without a doubt one of our favorite parts of our school day. Every day, students gather around the carpet share a good book. All eyes are on me as I read a riveting read-aloud book.
Students gain a love and appreciation for books through read-alouds.
I have chosen titles from a variety of titles spanning several genres, themes, and Lexile levels. The focus is on inclusion, diversity, and kindness. Most have a social lesson or science concept to teach. Others are just plain fun to read! I can't wait to start.
