This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are talented, competent change makers. They are successful at building bridges and exerting their voices. They love being challenged and coming out as the underdog. These students always brighten my day with the way they can get their points across. My students all come from low-income backgrounds. They all experience a level of transience, My students suffer abandonment from either one or both parents and still manage to come to school with a passion to learn.
My Project
My students are participating in Socratic Seminar based on these stories. I copy chapters of these stories daily so that my students have access to the learning. My students are participating in an author's study of Rita Williams Garcia because her writing is both influential and fun for my students. She writes about different things my students face and can relate to. This makes my students love to read. Being able to make connections to the text has made reading come alive. This project is going to help not only my students now but upcoming 4th-grade students across our school.
