This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have a diverse classroom. I teach a range of multicultural students, special needs, and English Language Learners. My students love to sit on the floor, in corners, or even lay on the floor. When they are doing independent work, I allow them to move to a comfortable place which helps them to perform better and stay focused. All my students enjoy collaborative learning and learn from each other! I would love to get some furniture for flexible seating, so all students can sit in comfort and learn!
My Project
My classroom is made up of students from various cultural backgrounds and a range of academic achievement. Students work well as a team. High achieving students love to work as mentors. As part of collaborative learning, students having some flexible seating options will build a more engaging and motivating classroom community. We have one large carpet in our room. Once that area is full, it leaves the floor. While students have managed, having more comfortable seating options such as beanbag seats will help the students to stay engaged, motivated, and alert. This will be especially important to our special needs students. When students are engaged it also decreases disciplinary incidents. My dream is that our classroom looks like a Community Library!
