My students are always eager to learn and read. They enjoy learning and I enjoy finding ways to make the learning fun and engaging for them. The students in my school are from a low income and very rural area. Most students do not have a lot or even access to a lot in our small community. The students know the challenges facing them since we are in such a high poverty area.
As my students' teacher, I am always looking for ways to motivate them to want to do better in my classroom and in all other areas of their schooling.
I teach all of the 5th grade students in our school. We switch classes in order to better prepare them for the transition to middle school next year. We just started this school year and I am even starting to think and look ahead to what will be needed to finish the new year strong.
My Project
I have several copies of Esperanza Rising already in my book collection. This book tells of a girl who thought her life was going to stay the way she had been living. Something happens and her and her Mom have to move away. Once they move away Esperanza faces a lot of hardships and Esperanza has to learn to deal with her difficult circumstances.
I really feel that my students would enjoy reading this book as a novel study.
I want my students to see that people can overcome hardships even as a child. The other items I want are books to add to my classroom library. I have a few books written by Patterson. The students have enjoyed reading them, and want me to get more.
