My Students

I work in the Special Education Department with students in the high school setting. In our classroom, we strive to have each of our students become more independent. We work on a variety of skills and help guide them to become successful adults.

We love to provide experiences in our school and in the community.

Some of our experiences are jobs we complete in school or volunteer positions within our community. It's always very rewarding to see our students accomplish specific goals related to their work experiences.

My Project

In our classroom we have a cafe, where some of our students work. R.I.S.E Cafe (Reaching Independence through Supported Education) is a way to provide in school job experiences for our students to have hands on learning. Our students currently make, sell and deliver coffee, and slushees to our staff members and students.

The cafe is a great way to help improve communication skills, math skills, and problem solving skills.

Our goal is to add additional items to our cafe which will help enhance our students' skill set. The bakery display case will allow us to add food items to our cafe, which we are all very excited about.
