Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a wide range of cities within Essex County, New Jersey, and represent very diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. My students are creative and smart, but are in need of an outlet in which to engage with STEAM while tapping into their creative side.
Through the hard work of my students on FIRST Tech Challenge Team 11180 and the recognition by administrators of the value and impact of STEAM, we have begun a robotics/engineering class at school this year!
My students crave anything new and STEAM related, and their engagement soars with such projects. I am excited to bring bring drones to the classroom!
My Project
The Tello drone will open up a new world for students to explore STEAM. Within my engineering course, students will be able to learn about the physics of flight, electronics, and most importantly will provide students with a new approach to coding as they are able to use the programming language Scratch.
In addition, these drones can be used by students in their math class to explore relationships and create graphs of flight time and distance, or they can be used in environmental science to record local areas from above to identify human impact on the earth from buildings and litter, or even by students in art to create and edit videos from a perspective otherwise unreachable.
These drones will offer a flexible, engaging, and hands on way to bring STEAM to life. Thank you!
