As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, they are hardworking, amazing individuals.
I teach at a Title I school in New Hampshire where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Our school serves students in grades K-5 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. My students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to come to school everyday so they can learn to the best of their ability and gain skills to be successful in the future.
My Project
The use of morning work is a daily activity in my classroom. We will use these "Rise and Shine" binders every morning. This is a beneficial way to start our day in the classroom because it is self-directed. These binders will have numerous literacy and math based activities and assignments for students to complete once they unpack for the day. Some of these activities include sight word cards, math fact flashcards, cursive practice, and place value.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to increase our academic achievement, you will also make our classroom more eco-friendly.
Having these binders means that my students will use them year after year. This will drastically reduce the amount of paper being used in my classroom each day.
The "Rise and Shine" binders will give my students more consistency and independence during their morning routine. The various activities and assignments will challenge students at their individual levels. These binders will be a helpful tool for my students learning.
