Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 150 motivated students using STEM Lab computers, programs, and robotics equipment. Students were pulled suddenly from these technological learning resources when we went to distance learning at the end of last year and will be looking forward to in-person.
The students are now back and ready to engage with the hands-on technology in our STEM Lab.
With reduced elective choices, students are re-taking STEM Lab. We are revamping to offer a semester of new projects.
For many of the students, STEM Lab is the best part of the school day. It is where they explore a technology in a project of their own choosing. More than half of my students come from low-income households with limited resources. STEM Lab is the only place many students have hands-on access to learn about different technologies.
My Project
Our robotics competition team has the Vex IQ robotics kits and competition field. The only things missing are the game pieces (elements in the Rise Above Competition). The Vex IQ competition elements will be essential as the team designs an effective robot able to complete the challenge.
The students are ready to test out their robots and improve their design, but need the competition field pieces to make this happen.
Robotics competitions have the students use their robots to perform different tasks. For example, the robots may have to pick up an object and stack it on top of something else. By attempting all the challenges of picking up, placing, and stacking the real game pieces, the students will make more informed decisions on how to modify their robot and code.
