Rippling for Waves of Learning

My students need diffraction arc sets, doppler effect apparatus, a ripple tank, and a resonator set to help them visualize and comprehend complex wave concepts.

My Students

My students are the light of my life! We all come from such diverse backgrounds and together, each day is made better for it. Our Title I school is the educational hub for over 600 students. Some of whom travel from as far as ten miles out. Early morning bus rides are just one of many struggles that some of our students face daily. As a Title 1 school, many of our students come from high poverty backgrounds and have little access to educationally rich experiences that will shape their future.

No child should miss out on exceptional learning opportunities due to limited circumstances.

It is my goal to bring highly interactive experiences to my students and to help them integrate a passion for learning into their daily lives.

My Project

Learning about waves can be a bit abstract and complex. There are difficult concepts about wave properties that just need more than a blurb in a textbook to make learning happen. With the right tools and hands-on experiences, learning is undeniable.

Through the use of our selected tools, we will bring these concepts to life and make them more tangible for greater learning.

For example, students often struggle to understand lines of instance and line of reflection in terms of diffraction. By using the diffraction arcs, students will be able to see just how this process works. With the help of the ripple machine, students will be able to witness a very difficult concept for most 7th graders to understand; diffusion. This table will provide an interactive visualization of this property of waves, making learning greater. Finally, with the resonance set and doppler effect tools, students will simulate two properties of sound waves that they have some familiarity with but will develop a stronger understanding of through the interactive exploration during labs.
