My Students

The students in the Arts AV Program at HHS have intentionally decided to leave their "school of record" to come to our career and technical institute to study the art of Media Communications. These students leave many of their Jr. High friends behind and add hours to their daily bus rides so they can pursue a meaningful career in Photography, Graphic Design, Video Production, Broadcast Journalism, etc. etc.

Whether it is the sons and daughters of college professors or the children of dog mushers who live in a dry cabin near the Alaska range, we meld them all together around the common mission of creating high level media for our community.

My Project

As my students continue to expand their skill sets and push our productions to a higher and higher level, we are constantly seeing gaps in our production equipment and the industry standards. On a recent professional development trip to New York I noticed a plethora of ring lights that photographers were using for their portraits.

In a time where anyone can take a photo on their phone, the true pros must now use additional equipment, like this ring light, to separate themselves from the rest of the field.

It is our hope that once this project gets funded that we will be able to step up our portrait game. It could be a real win win as not only will my students get more experience with higher end equipment but our clients will get better portraits as well.
