This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach third grade in a Title I school. The school is in the middle of a neighborhood. My students come from varying backgrounds. Many of our students have limited parent support and are economically disadvantaged.
Despite many of the students' challenging backgrounds, students come to school ready to learn.
They are leaders in the classroom and around the school.
My students are very hard workers. They want to do well, and I want to provide them with the tools to do so!
My Project
My school district requires that we have a daily 90-minute reading block. During this time, I am meeting with reading groups while other students are working independently with reading and writing activities. I would love to provide my students with more rigorous reading assignments that are also of high interest.
The StoryWork magazines will be used in both reading centers, reading groups, and silent reading.
The content of the StoryWorks magazine will allow students to read about a topic through several genres. It will also allow my students to respond to the articles through question prompts, writing and quizzes. The subscription also provides access to the online portion which will allow me to assign reading quizzes and additional assignments though Google Classroom.
