Our Pre-K are an energetic, curious, active group of children in rural Eastern North Carolina that have been identified as being at risk for successful.
Some children have never had the opportunity to ride!
These young children have lots of energy and are curious to find new ways to move!
One way they like doing this is by manipulating their bodies to make it move. For some, they have never had an opportunity to ride a bike. The simple task of pushing the pedals up and down is a new fascinating challenge.
My Project
Our Pre-K students spend lots of time outside with friends developing friendships. While riding trikes, the children strengthen their social-emotional skills. They use solving problem skills while interacting and sharing, and establish positive relationships with peers.
We need trikes to develop gross motor skills that used to build large muscles crucial for running, balancing, and coordinating complex movements.
With some much-needed funding, we will be able to purchase more bikes for our playground. At the present time, we have three bikes shared between three classes of 54 students. While they do an amazing job sharing, more bikes would be beneficial!
