We only see STARS in our school program. Our STARS Program stands for Students Toward Achieving Responsibility and Success. We have a K-4 program in Central Illinois that serves a variety of special education needs.

The various needs include difficulties associated with autism spectrum disorders, social emotional disorders, poverty, post-traumatic stress disorders, learning disabilities, sensory processing disorders and more. Each student is mainstreamed in the general education classrooms for at least one academic period. All of the students are also included in regular P.E., music and art. Our services help them cope with stress, anger, trauma and more.

The students in the program are most successful when taught social skills paired with sensory integration. Social skills assist students by teaching real-life situations and coping techniques. Sensory integration allows students to use physical strategies on how to de-escalate from stressful situations and gives opportunities for movement and exercise needed for success in school. A recumbent bike would benefit the students by giving them opportunities for exercise in the classroom, as well as channeling any extra energy from emotional situations at school and home.

Your help will assist students in many ways! This would include daily exercise, as well as opportunities to focus negative energy and turn it into positive outcomes! As teachers we know what negative behaviors students display in school, but we may not realize the impact that teaching coping strategies have on each child, which may keep some negative behaviors from ever happening.
