Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
At our school, our students come from homes that struggle financially and speak only Spanish and Hmong. They need an increased amount of support while they are at school because they cannot receive it at home. My goal is to create a classroom where students can learn effectively with their peers while having fun.
I love how each student is willing to take chances and make mistakes.
Their young minds are at the age where they are beginning to lay the foundation of whom they will become. With these math resources they will be more exposed to the possibilities within themselves as they learn and explore math fundamentals. As first graders, they need concrete manipulative and visuals to understand abstract concepts. Each tool will support many aspects of their education and personal level of understanding. We want our classroom to be exciting and filled with variety!
My Project
Each resource on the list has a carefully-thought intention. Our math block includes whole-class instruction, guided support, individual application, and fluency practice. Every item will meet the students at their varying levels, providing them support that is effective and easy to manage.
With these tools, my students will undoubtedly be engaged throughout each portion of the lesson.
The games are intended to join students together during their fluency time so they can learn from one another while being fully engaged. The three different sets of whiteboards will support the different aspects of the math curriculum during whole-class and guided instructional time. The dice, counters, dominoes, and spinners are basic tools that will lend themselves useful in every day practice.
