Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a small rural area in Arizona that is near a few larger cities. So many of our kids have such a struggle at home and because of this, they are at times, poorly equipped to come to school to learn. The students are so amazing and are craving positive interactions and good examples.
The students share 4 teachers and rotate classes throughout the day with ELA, Math, Social Studies and Science.
Our school is a STEM school and they have grown so much with the exposure that they have been provided.
Our school is a Title 1 school where 85% of the kids are on free & reduced lunches. We are also a 21st CCLC school which allows so many of the kids to get an extended day.
My Project
In order to grow as a writer and a reader, one needs to have resources available to them. These magazines will allow my students to have access to reading material that they would not normally be exposed to. Students will use these magazines to research, to write, to test, to use as examples as well as close reading strategies. These magazines will be used as a starting point for ELA curriculum.
The materials that I have requested will support the learning of my students by allowing them to receive exposure to rich text of the world around them.
It is very important that students in my small rural school are able to experience what life is like outside of the small community.
