Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are interested in Robotics and Aviation. We started a girls robotics club called the Bladerunners which had middle schoolers who drove our 100 pound robot and now freshmen build the mechanical chassis. AirTigers and Bladerunners has 20 students who are freshmen with two other middle schoolers who joined later. We hope to continue this work as they start a new season to couple drone racing and ground robotics. Students will be provided skill sets and hands on testing every day. Simulators are the first toolkits they learn and then robotics both mixed mode is the eventual goal. They have done Vex robotics and made us proud with a Judges' award at a recent competition.

My Project

Bladerunners and Airtigers are two teams from our high school that have built a robot in three days for outreach purposes. We are now focusing on community activities. We hope to showcase the activities both on campus and outside the school where the panel will be used as a hands-on learning model. The team built 3D printed and tested quadcopters in the fall and learned systems engineering with a Vex Robotics Competition in December where they won the Judges Award.

The team will showcase their work at Engineering Day in Prince Georges County and take the robots on the road.
