Our elementary school family is one of a kind! We are a Title I school that strives in being a "home away from home." Our students are creative and have a willing spirit to exhibit their creativity in the classroom and on stage. My music students range from 2nd-5th grade.
All of my students compose original music and share it in different ways.
These expressive outlets include: voice, keyboard, recorder and xylophone. Their positive attitude to learn and good disposition has been a large motivating factor for teachers and staff to give our absolute best for them.
I use many online resources in addition to "Gameplan K-5 Music Curriculum." Such resources are enriched with student engagement, creativity and movement. Since I am the music teacher at my school, I service students from 2nd-5th grade. Each class ranges from 20-35 students. The common denominator to all activities being taught from 2-5th grade are handheld percussion instruments. I currently do not have enough percussion instruments to supply all of my students in one class with the opportunity to participate in all the activities.
By donating sufficient age-appropriate percussion instruments for students to engage in rhythmic and movement activities will not only maximize their musical experience but will increase their communication of creative expression.
This is extremely vital that each class is equipped to engage and create. Scientific studies have shown that music and movement communicate emotion. In order for such pivotal learning experiences to manifest, adequate supplies of rhythm instruments are needed.
