My school, located in northern Indiana, is a low income school where all of our students qualify for free and reduced price breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Most of my students come from homes where they are required to be an adult before they are ready to. Most of their parents work outside of the home just to keep food on the table. The teachers, such as myself, play a big role to help these students as the school year goes on and beyond.
My students love to do hands-on activities and thrive when they are given such opportunities.
So much time is focused on preparing for state testing, but when they come to my class, its an opportunity to engage in a different way, but with the focus still on preparedness. I really want them to focus on growing and always striving to be the best they can be personally, especially when trying new things beyond the test.
I teach students who are hungry to be successful and to be proud of tasks placed in front of them. I am excited to place new opportunities in front of them to do just that.
My Project
Having a set of recorders will bless low-income students who are used to using recycled or extremely old items for instruments. With your donation, students will be able to use real instruments, and some basic music, which will get them excited about learning.
Having recorders to use for instruments will help students to become better engaged, practice rhythms, improve listening skills, focus, leadership skills, and allows them an avenue to be creative, which will improve their overall academic achievement.
This will change our students' lives for the better because they will love school and feel successful as they are having fun while learning!
