I teach at a grades 1-4 elementary school in rural Missouri. All 360 students come to music class once a week to engage Orff method music education through folk dancing, singing, improvising and instrument playing.
Students at Jefferson elementary contribute to a school environment that values kindness, collaboration, and always striving to be beyond average.
This music program provides opportunities for success every day for every student no matter the background they come from. Music making is joyful, creative, and kind at our elementary school.
The addition of this tubano will allow students to experience rhythm on a non-pitched percussion instrument. It is important that students experience melody and rhythm on a variety of pitched and non-pitched instruments. Students regularly rotate through instrument stations.
The incorporation this tubano encourages students to explore new sounds and rhythms during music class.
An Orff centered music education emphasises learning music through experience. We have one tubano but it only allows for only a few students in each class to play on it each day.
Drumming on a tubano will allow for students to experience music in a new and creative way and may bring to light certain strengths a student may have.
