Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I will be starting my fourth year teaching at this tremendous school. When I started, the school was transitioning from a traditional middle school to an arts academy. I teach instrumental music. Currently I teach four bands and two orchestras. We are a public school that is 4th through 8th grade. Students are focused and driven to excel in the arts as well as academics. Students begin their journey at an early age and develop their passion for the arts as they progress through the program.
My Project
The rhythm section is a key component to making any ensemble sound professional. This project focuses on improvements to our rhythm section. Funding for this project will go towards new heads for the drum kit and timbales, a suspended cymbal/stand, a wireless microphone system for the upright bass, a guitar gig bag and a percussion bag to help organize mallets.
By providing top quality equipment for instruments, students will be able to obtain a professional sound.
Our drum heads have not been replaced in over a year. Overused drum heads will provide a dull and "flat" sound. By adding new heads, not only will the drum kit sound fantastic, it will help all the ensembles sound their best!
When we do our combined concerts, we have the issue of not having enough suspended cymbals. The stand and cymbal set will help alleviate this issue. The wireless mic system will help the upright bass to be heard clearly when playing with the Jazz Band. Lastly, the guitar and percussion bags will help protect our guitar and mallets which are costly to replace.
These materials will make a difference in student's lives by improving their overall sound and helping them get organized. Students will be able to perform with greater confidence as a result.
