Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a vast array of countries and backgrounds. They are super bright and excited to learn. Each loves to come to school and learn new things! We love exploring and working hard together as a team. Over 97% are disadvantaged economically (under the poverty line), the vast majority (60+%) are English Language Learners and 20% have disabilities. Each student has unique gifts, are uniquely-abled and I strive to provide a genuinely unique experience.
Every time my students leave, they thank me.
They are grateful for the resources and food they receive at school. We have a cohort of stunning individuals who are so special and are specially abled. This is what makes them super amazing.
My Project
Every year, I say the same thing. "Rhythm is simple--like a pepperoni pizza." Students have thrived equating rhythmic concepts to pizza and pie.
Students engage in a process where they "bake their pizza" and serve it up with rhythmic slices.
It allows them to create it, see it, say it and retain the concepts for later use when they will be asked to read it.
This has proven over and over again to be a powerful tool.
Additionally, I am excited to invite students into class with a hopscotch carpet. They will "hop to the beat" and find their sit spot.
This year is going to be super exciting with so much learning!
