My Students

I have fifteen preschool age students in my classroom. My students are a mixed group: three, four, and five year olds. I have my students for two years, prior to them entering Kindergarten. My classroom is general education, however, I do have a few special education/PIRT students.

Rhyming is a fun way to teach the sounds of our language.

My students enjoy rhyming. They find it to be fun and interesting. They love trying to play with our language by creating their own rhymes.

My Project

For this project, I chose big books with the focus on rhyming. These books will be added to my library of big books. Big books are ideal for story time due to this time of the day being a large group. Rhyming can be a difficult skill for young children to grasp. Therefore, I like to use story time to teach this skill in addition to other times of the day.

Rhyming is an important emergent literacy skill.

It helps children to learn about word families and phonological awareness, the ability to notice and work with the sounds of our language.
