Rhyme Time!

Help me give my students new games and books to help them increase their rhyming skills, which is a critical phonemic awareness skill for children in transitional kindergarten.

My Project

What I love best about working with transitional kindergarten students is their natural curiosity and ability to learn concepts quickly through songs and through play. The activities that I have selected from Lakeshore such as the Rhyming Sounds Phonemic Awareness Box and the Whats the Rhyme? Sorting Houses are high-quality rhyming games, which are perfect for this type of learning. The materials will allow the students to learn about rhyming words in different and exciting new ways. The games can be used independently or in small groups to assist all learners as they begin to master this critical early literacy skill.

Because most TK students enjoy stories with rhymes, we also need colorful books on CD for our classroom listening center.

The students will be able to choose which story they would like to listen to. Students will be able to sing along to the songs and rhymes as they listen in pairs using the headphones. Other children who are ready to be challenged can begin to recognize sight words that we're learning as they begin to read along with the familiar book!

Thank you for considering a donation to our classroom to make this project a reality I can't wait to see the looks on the students' faces when we open the new materials. They will have so much fun while they learn to rhyme! I know from experience that the materials from Lakeshore are quality materials and very durable. Your gift will benefit our transitional kindergarten students for many years to come!
