I am a kindergarten teacher at an elementary school in San Francisco's Chinatown district. My students love to come to school. They are rarely absent. My classroom is a place where they can learn, talk and play with other children. Most of my students live in one-room apartments or studios in or around Chinatown. My students are energetic 5-year-olds who are second language learners, learning English as their second language. Being second language learners, they need many different learning experiences and activities to develop their English. The materials I am requesting are: one set of rhyme and read kits and two pocket charts. The set has 48 different rhymes containing common sight-words and vocabulary. There are pictures and word cards for students to match the text to help them develop their word recognition skills, concepts about print, and comprehension skills. Having the set of rhyme and read kits will help my students develop their English language. Each year I have 20 students. These materials will last many years and help many little 5-year-olds learn and develop their English.
