Teaching in a low socioeconomic school, where many of the students are met with various challenges that hinder them from accessing the resources needed to accomplish their academic goals on a daily basic. Ninety-nine percent of the students are on free or reduced-price lunch and have a single mothers who work one or more jobs to make ends meet. The students that I service are Discoveries students, meaning that they are gifted and are above grade level academically. Many of my student love to read, but do not have the adequate resources necessary that allow them to acquire the items that are needed that go with the state or local curriculum.
"In Discoveries, the students learn based on EXPERIENCES." Experiences provide them with the academic and hands-on learning that they need in order to reach their academic goal and fullest potential .
Discoveries students at our school are the inquisitive, curious, and innovative lifelong learners that are in the driver's seat to the future. Many of the Discoveries student move on to the top Charter, Magnet or Montessori programs throughout the city and have the top test scores due to the experiences that are provided in my class.
This project will make a difference in my classroom, because this will allow the students at our school to read and discuss novels with each other and with their parents at home. Reading novels also improves our students' visualization in their mind, allowing them to take on the character in the book and becoming one with them.
Pulling words off of a page is one of the most powerful medium to content that feeds our intellectual faculty.
Revving to Read assist in the students retaining their intellectual flavor and their hunger to learn more and connect the experiences to real life.
