My students need recess equipment that allows for variety and choice. The parachute with numbers will foster teamwork, collaboration, and eye/hand coordination while reinforcing academic skills such as number identification and counting.
My Kindergarten aged students ensure that each day is a new adventure filled with curiosity and excitement. Our classroom, within a rural, Title I school, provides services to students from a variety of demographics, including Native Americans and students with exceptional needs.
These young students are bundles of energy and deserving of safe indoor/outdoor recess materials that are appropriate for the diverse needs of our community of learners.
Many of my students are learning to become productive members of a larger group, such as their peer group and school community. Recess consisting of a variety of developmentally appropriate materials encourages not only physical activity but also creativity, collaboration, decision making, problem solving, and growth in social/emotional competencies.
My Project
My students' assigned recess area does not contain developmentally appropriate play equipment or supplies. The variety of materials requested will serve as a foundation of supplies to be built upon over time and shared with other Kindergarten classrooms as needed.
Busy little 5 year-olds need opportunities to make choices, collaborate, and master social/emotional competencies.
These opportunities will be provided in the use of these materials during recess time each day. The variety of sizes and designs of the playground balls will allow students to use them for numerous games and activities. The ribbons will foster creativity through movement and dance.
