This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The whole world opened to me when I learned to read." - Mary Mcleod Bethune. Opening the doors through reading is my goal for my students.

Students at my school are so eager to learn and absorb knowledge on a daily basis.

My goal as a 4th grade teacher is to see plenty of growth in my students and teach them to love learning. My school is located in a small rural farming area where many of the parents of our students are in the fields picking food all day. We are also a Title I and Renaissance school, meaning over 90% of our children get free lunches. Most of them have so many needs, live in poverty, and come to school with very little. Many of my students lack English fluency and confidence in mastering the English language because they come from Spanish-speaking homes. The parents at this school have a difficult time affording many necessities, let alone books and reading resources. So many of the items that are in the classroom come from our own pockets. I would like to help my students learn and become a learner for life.

My Project

These Chromebooks will be used on a daily basis in order to prepare my students for learning, life, and the FSA. Students at my school come from poverty and do not have access to the Internet and computers at home. When they come to school, they are being prepared for the world of technology. Students at my school are asked to take the state FSA test on the computers, being compared to other schools, where the students each have a piece of technology at home. This will help bridge the gap for my students and allow them to learn the same as other students across the state. We would use programs to help them with their learning, as well as do research projects on the computer. These computers will help them become better readers on the computer and having practice using the different software.

My students will be able to open these computers and have the world at their fingertips.

They can not only practice their reading skills but explore the world in social studies. Science demonstrations with the use of these computers will help my ESOL (Spanish speaking) and ESE (special needs) students with visuals, especially when studying about rocks/minerals, the Moon, weathering/erosion, etc. They can also use these programs that practice their multiplication facts, which is a must for fourth grade.

The daily use of Chromebooks in the classroom will build a technological foundation that every child needs now and in the future. Not only will students be able to access the curriculum through technology, they will also be learning lifelong skills such as communication, research, and the ability to type.
