Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in a low-income neighborhood. More than ninety percent of our students are Hispanic, and most of them came from Mexico. They are eager to learn and they need something different to get motivated. There are many TAG schools around us and we want to make our school better by making wonderful Escape Rooms!
My Project
I love making Escape Rooms for my kiddos. This year I decided to make one related to the American Revolution.
I have already prepared a dossier with several passages aligned to the STAAR in chronological order about the Independence of USA.
My students are going to discover Pocahontas and the Thirteen Colonies. We will talk about the Boston Massacre and Boston Tea Party. Then we will focus on the first and the second Continental Congress. Furthermore, we will learn for sure, about some important characters in this story such as Paul Revere, Thomas Jefferson or George Washington. And, it goes without saying that we need to analyze crucial battles such as Battle of Saratoga or Yorktown. We will conclude everything with the Constitution of the United States of America.
In order to do this, I need to adapt the condition of my classroom. I need to buy decorations such as backdrops to take pictures of each team. I want to make a classroom transformation and tell my students about the prizes like soldiers or Liberty Bells. Each team will represent one nation and if they score master in the passages they will get soldier figures and will have the opportunity to shoot other nations with the confetti cannon. When we have learned many interesting things about this topic, I will prepare an Escape Room day, in which, applying all their knowledge, they will have to open a padlock with number combination where the rest of the prizes are going to be. That day I will dress up as George Washington.
