My students need the tools to become innovators and makers! We want to teach sewing, woodworking, and STEM with these sewing machines, hand tools, and Makey Makey kits. Because everyone deserves an opportunity to create!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from low income demographics and challenging backgrounds (including refugees, and students living in homeless shelters). We are an urban school, located in project housing within a large metropolitan city, with 100% free breakfast and lunch .
My students are some of the most hard working and committed young people I know, and are living in a world that is far from the future I try to help them create.
I know that no matter what their struggle, my students have the strength, intelligence, and ability to achieve.
My Project
We all know that school budgets have killed HomeEc. and Woodshop, but what if a group of teachers decided to bring them back?! We cleaned out a storage room and are creating our own MakerSpace!
Our MakerSpace will provide all students an opportunity to create, innovate, build, design, sew, and even sell their creations for fundraising!
MakeyMakey and Tinkering Labs are great for developing inventive thinking and problem solving. The woodworking tools help kids put their math towards real world projects. Designing and sewing their own clothes helps our low income students to find a solution to a real challenge.
