I teach at a public elementary STEM school in the heart of Idaho. We serve over 750 pre-K through 5th grade students from a broad range of backgrounds. Several of our students are first-generation Americans from Kenya, Uzbekistan, Russia, Albania, and Romania.
My students are an eager bunch of 2nd graders with diverse academic needs.
They are intrinsically curious about the world around them and dive into learning with gusto! I strive to foster their creative energy through teamwork and independence, so they are prepared to be engaged citizens of our community.
My Project
Boise is one of the fastest growing cities in the nation and with that we are experiencing a lot of construction. Our school is benefiting from the construction of a gym on our campus, which is wonderful, except that it has eliminated an entire field, tether ball court, and basketball area where students used to play at recess. There isn't any built-in playground equipment for my students in the section they're assigned to for recess. Consequently, we have experienced an increase in student conflict during recess because of lost space and equipment. The playground balls, scoop ball sets, and skip ball sets will give students something fun and engaging to do during recess. They need equipment to help them direct their energy positively by playing games with their friends.
These materials will provide my students with more opportunities to interact creatively, positively, and cooperatively with each other.
My students also love sharing their ideas and art with me. The brick building materials and marble run are perfect for allowing students to explore engineering and make their own creations. Having these materials available also allows me to offer indoor recess alternatives for students as needed.
Finally, we need subtraction Learning Wrap-Ups to master the basic math facts that lay the foundation for more difficult computations. This tool allows students to learn at their own pace, is self-checking, and is more engaging than traditional pen and paper worksheets. My students also love to see if they can beat the teacher as they gain confidence with their math facts! Thanks so much for helping my students focus their energy at recess and nurturing their creativity and problem-solving with your generous donation.
