Ms. McGowan from Daytona Beach FL is requesting reading nooks, desks & storage through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need organizational tools to function during independent reading centers. Included are containers to hold their materials, tools to create class writing books, magnetic letters to assist with sight-word centers, and flexible seating options.

My Students are ambitious, free-thinking, hard-working, first graders. There is never a dull moment with them as they are full of energy and excitement to learn, when engaged. Because most come from low-socioeconomic households in the heart of Daytona Beach, Florida, they are even more excited for the new experiences that they receive at school.
Every task they are given, they work their hardest to achieve successfully.
They can be hard on themselves when they feel they do not succeed, but we work every day to remember that mistakes are moments for learning, and it's okay to keep trying, but it's not okay to give up. They often remind their friends of this because they want everyone to be successful!
My students love reading centers because it is the time for them to create at an independent level, while working with their peers without their teacher guiding every step! During this time, the students work on their independent reading skills, sight-word recognition, writing skills, and comprehension skills. In order for them to work successfully with materials that we already have, we are in need of organizational tools and ways to help us create our writing books.
My students are very hands on and love being able to manipulate items, which enhances their learning.
The magnetic letters will be placed on metal cookie sheets that we already have to help organize where the letters are so they can spend less time searching for the letters, and more time manipulating the words! The Letter tray will assist in keeping the magnetic letters easily accessible.
The binding coils will be used to bind the students work in their work on writing center. This will keep all of their work together so they can see how much they have grown from the beginning of the year until the end. My county does not have a writing curriculum for Kindergarten or First grade, so I use all teacher created resources and we need a place to store them, which is where the desktop bins will come in handy! My students will be able to locate their materials quickly and get straight to writing, which they enjoy!
Because most of my reading centers are teacher created materials, we are in need of the Craft Keeper storage bins to store all of our individual center materials during word work, sight word centers, and work on writing.
Finally, what fun is revising our center time without adding some new seating options!
