Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from all over the world. Our students come from India, Turkey, Pakistan, Japan, and Mexico just to name a few so most are ESL. Our school is Title 1 so most likely our students come from low-income families. I absolutely love how each one of them is very unique in their own beautiful way. As soon as they walk through my door, I make sure they feel loved and cared for every single day no matter where they come from or how their day is going.
Be kind to one another is my motto in my classroom so we start the year off learning how to be kind to everyone and accept everyone for who they are.
We also begin to learn respect for ourselves, friends and our things and how to take responsibility for our actions and caring for our things.
My Project
I am asking for books, puppets and storytelling activities for our classroom library. I want to make our classroom library a fun place where my students can read books, retell stories and use their imagination to create their own stories.
Retelling a story is a skill pre-readers need to practice in order to gain experience with later reading comprehension.
Children can listen to a story and recall the characters, what the characters say, and details about the plot. So, once we've done it together as a group they can be excited to visit our classroom library and do it on their own.
Items like puppets help give my kids a voice and build confidence within themselves and with their classmates to talk to one another and participate in group activities.
