Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach the most amazing, resourceful and resilient bunch of first graders! Here in our town, the achievement gap has hit hard. I teach in one of the most impoverished neighborhoods in Connecticut. All of my students are performing under grade level due to varied socioeconomic reasons. Our surrounding suburbs are some of the richest in the world and my students are missing out!
In my school, basic necessities for school such as books, pencils and paper are not guaranteed.
Often times students will not complete their homework because they don't have any pencils, pens, or crayons at home. Most of my students do not even have their own books at home and only have access to a few books in school.
Despite all of this, my students are enthusiastic about school and learning.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of materials to improve the classroom library. These items include library card pockets, a hot glue gun for labeling book boxes, tag board for book reports, headphones for our extensive online library, and an index card file so we can keep track of the books.
We have plenty of wonderful books but the organization doesn't allow the students to get the most out of the library.
These materials will help us to reorganize the library so that the students can get the most out of it. Students will be able to borrow books to take home, complete book reports, and even find books that they previously haven't been able to find.
