I have a classroom with 18 students. Their reading abilities range from being able to read a level C Fountas and Pinnell to a level M. Academically speaking they are all just as diverse in their abilities and needs. With a heavy emphasis being placed on teaching students using the common core standards it is vital that we find innovative ways to fill in the gap for students. It is vital that all students have the ability to show they are strong thinkers and problems solvers. It may be important to note that 100% of our school qualifies for free lunch under a grant.
My Project
Using the Units of Study, students are exposed to and taught a lot of solid reading and writing strategies. My students will use these books to become more fluent in reading nonfiction texts. They will also learn how to work in small groups to research their animals. In these small groups, students will be able to compare and contrast how the different biomes, life cycles, and habitats the animals live in. By having access to a wide variety of texts, students will be able to read in heterogeneous groups and be productive members of the research group.
Your generous donation to this project will enable my students to grow stronger as readers and writers.
Students will be able to compare and contrast different animals, how they grow, and adapt to their environment. Students will be excited and engaged in the process of reading, researching, and writing about their research. Students will be able to share their research projects with peers and their families.
