Help me give my students headphones, Play Dough, Command hooks, and printable magnetic paper so that we can create individual sets of magnetic letters for independent learning stations as we return to in-person school!
My students walk through the door each morning with happy, smiling faces. They are always excited to greet me and each other. At first glance, you see happy children in a nice school building ready to learn.
Take a closer look; however, and you'll notice the stark differences.
Some of my students arrive well-groomed in matching outfits with new backpacks and lunch boxes. Many of my students, on the other hand, arrive in clothes are that are too small with uncombed hair and shoes that are falling apart. Their backpacks are patched up from last year with the hope that they will last through another year.
They are smiling and happy for very different reasons from their peers. These students are thrilled to receive a free breakfast and lunch. They are glad to be in a warm, safe place for the day where they have access to books, paper, markers, and pencils. Daily, we strive to overcome this disparity in our student population to achieve the common goal of learning.
My Project
We are about to enter the new adventure of in-person learning with COVID-19 restrictions in place. We want to make this experience as enjoyable as possible for our young learners. This means a lot of individual supplies and manipulatives.
We plan to create individual sets of magnetic letters using the printable magnetic paper so that each child has a set at his/her desk for building words.
We would also like to have headphones on hand for students who need them for listening at independent centers. The command hooks will offer a resting place for masks during lunch so that kids keep their masks safe and clean. The bilingual cards will provide language support for both of our dual language immersion classrooms.
