Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Wouldn't you love to swim with The Rainbow Fish? Or get some rest in The Napping House? Maybe see what happens on The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash? My students would love to do all these things and more with small group sets of these and several other classic tales.
I directly teach 35 amazing first graders.
I teach in a dual language program, so my students spend half of the day learning in English and the other half learning in Spanish. We are in a rural area in Florida. We are a public school with a high poverty rate. Many of my students have very few books to call their own.
My Project
I would love for my students have small group sets of each book to go with our storytelling kits. We are using the kits to retell the stories and I also want them to be able to read each story as well. This will help them gain self-confidence in their reading skills as well as their summarizing skills.
I am requesting six copies of each book so that the students will be able to read it together in small groups. These stories complement the storytelling kits we are already using to retell.
My students loved to be involved in reading and retelling stories.
They will gain self-confidence and increase their reading skills. Please help bring these fantastic stories to my classroom!
