Our kindergarteners are hardworking, fun loving, and eager to learn. They are excited to be in school and participate in the learning experiences we've planned for them. We, as teachers and staff, try to plan as many engaging, interactive and hands on experiences for our students. That's how they learn best!
Many of our students come from disadvantaged homes.
They tend to lack early skills that would make them successful in kindergarten. This makes having those interactive opportunities so important.
My Project
Retelling is such an important skill. We also know that students of all ages learn best when they are involved in their learning. We know that play is developmentally appropriate at this age and we, as teachers, work to incorporate as much play into learning as possible. I have requested a flannel board as well as a multitude of storytelling puppets.
These resources will be able to involve students in their learning and have fun at the same time!
This will improve their ability to retell, focus on the important ideas of the story, love learning, and get excited about school. The hands on manipulatives of felt characters from their favorite stories will give them authentic learning experiences for retelling. They will be able to use these felt characters to retell the main characters, the sequence of events, the problem, solution, and other important details from texts that they've listened to or read themselves. These resources will not only give them the foundational skills they will need in their future but will also foster a positive learning environment that they can hold with them as they continue on their journeys.
