Help me give my students the materials they need to keep creating in our MakerSpace. My Kindergarten students love using colored construction paper and Playcolor metallic colors markers when responding to books we read.
My students are amazing, hardworking children from very different backgrounds. Some of the children are from military families and have traveled the world. Others are from local families who have never left their own neighborhood. 68% of our students qualify for free or reduced price lunch. 49% are African-American, 48% White, 2% Latino and 1% other ethnicities. We are a Title I school in a suburban setting with a large military population. Our school has the highest mobility rate of any in the county with 13% of the population transferring in and out during any given school year. A large number of our students are with us for part of one year, then at another Title I school, then back to us for a period of time over and over again.
My K-5 students do more than read in the Media Center.
They respond to literature with drawings and projects and use their imaginations to create in the Makerspace.
My Project
Organizing construction paper can be a challenge. Having a new organizer for our new construction paper will make creating even easier and allow the students to be more independent.
The Playcolor - metallic colors markers and colored paper will allow my Kindergarten students to be even more creative in retelling stories.
My Kindergarten students are not the only ones who love to create. My 5th grade girls have requested more arts and craft type activities for the Makerspace. The items on our list will be used by students in grade K-5. I am always amazed by the uses students find for construction paper and fancy markers. It will be great to have more basic resources for them to use and enjoy.
