Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Japan, Italy, Germany and many more countries are just a few of the places where my students have lived! My school is one hundred percent military and my students move in and out quite frequently. They're truly special because some of the things they experience being a military child. They often endure the hardships of having a deployed parent, leaving friends and family, as well as having to adapt to a new city or country. They come to me with such a diverse and unique background, which makes teaching them that much more interesting and fun!

My Project

This project is for basic materials such as student whiteboards and dry erase pockets. I've been using the same whiteboards since I started teaching, over ten years ago. Many of the whiteboards are in bad condition. They're scratched, hard to erase, and almost illegible in some extreme cases. Having a new set of whiteboards will help me to better assess my student's knowledge throughout the day without wasting lots of paper on worksheets. Additionally, the dry erase pockets will do the same thing in terms of saving paper. I can make a small group or class set of worksheets that can be easily slid into the pockets to use for years to come.

In addition to these basic supplies, I would also like to provide my students with fun and engaging reading games they can play to reinforce a variety of reading skills.
