My students need a variety of recess equipment and a storage cart to provide a more well rounded play time that is engaging, exciting, and entertaining.
Energetic, playful, creative, imaginative, and motivated. These adjectives describe these students the best. Our school is a Title 1 school which indicates that 53% of our population come from low income families. Our school is also located on an island which makes getting supplies and equipment somewhat difficult.
With the increasing rigor of curriculum and classroom demands these students deserve their recess time more than ever!
Students work extremely hard during class time working towards achieving various state standards and have 2 - 15 minute blocks of recess.
In our rapidly advancing technological world, our students currently spend many hours of the day in front of a screen and they need more motivation to engage in outdoor activities.
My Project
The students at our school work extremely hard during the school day inside the classroom learning and working towards academic standards. With the stress that the academic rigor has now brought on to our children, they need the most out of their breaks and recesses. The equipment and storage cart that the students will receive will help to ensure that their breaks are exciting, engaging, entertaining and allow for them to make the most of recess.
Currently, we are limited with the resources the students have to interact with during our recess blocks and we are finding an increase of inappropriate behaviors that occur during the school day.
All the equipment that will be funded in this project will give students a variety of fun activities to participate and give their energy an outlet that will decrease some of those behaviors. The students will have exciting games and challenges to concentrate on and relieve some of the stresses of academics.
We will use the Heavy Duty Storage Cart to organize and house the equipment to ensure our equipment is being taken care of and get the most play out of the new toys. The Plastic Softballs and Juggling Scarves will be used to develop hand and eye coordination as a recess activity. The Pogo Ball Balance Boards, Balance Pods, and Stepping Buckets will all be used in rotation throughout the year to build the students core muscles all through the magic of play!
We are excited that the generous donations will help provide equipment to build gross motor muscles that will in turn help to support their academic progress in the classroom. They will also build social skills that are important at a young age that allows for them to work together, share, and take turns.
