I teach 3rd grade in an inner city public elementary school where all my students are English language learners. About 80% of our students are low income and receive free or reduced-price lunches. "Having a thirst for learning." simply understates my students' attitudes toward their learning. My students are a group of motivated hardworking learners. They are eager and ready to learn every day to build upon their knowledge. I am very fortunate to work with this group of students who yearn to learn from the start of the school day to the last bell of the day.
Our school’s mission is to provide students with effective teaching methods and a safe and nurturing environment that will prepare them for their future.
It is imperative for students to understand the importance of being global citizens who appreciate learning through collaboration. In this holistic approach, students learn the importance to be self-disciplined and work together to further challenge their thinking.
My Project
The start of the school year ran smoothly and the students have accustomed to their new classroom. The basic everyday materials we started with will now need to be restocked.
As you may know, teachers often pay out of their own pockets to buy necessary supplies such as erasers, staplers, and cleaning supplies for the students to make learning more tangible and to foster creativity.
With your help, we will have these basic items in the classroom without additional personal financial burden.
Having materials such as pencils, erasers, and tape readily available will help the class and everyday lessons run smoothly. Students wouldn't have to constantly search for a pencil or an eraser when they begin the day's lessons. Items such as tapes and staplers are wonderful to have when we create art projects. The laminating pouches help us reduce the needs to make or purchase more, and we can also reuse the materials throughout the year.
