I teach 17 third graders in a low-income, low-performing lab school. These students lack basic resources to pay for field trips and school lunch. The school assists the families in any way possible. I work with each student individually to create goals and plans to ensure progress. My students take pride in tracking their growth and making progress throughout the year. They are excited readers and enjoy reading collaboratively and independently!
My students are excited to come to school and it is a safe place for them.
They love to learn through exploring and interacting with hands-on activities. They enjoy group work and the ability to have a choice in their learning. We try to involve families and the community as much as possible to create a bridge for our students. We want to give our students experiences that they may not have at home and create a safe and nurturing environment in which we build lifelong learners.
My Project
We're at the end of the year and we have exhausted all of our materials and resources. Teaching at a low income school, our students do not come with many supplies. Many students struggle to pay for class pictures and field trips and the last thing I want students and their parents to be worried about are scissors, glue and pencils.
These supplies will simplify the beginning of the school year for my students.
Having these supplies already in the classroom will lower the first week anxiety of my students. Students should be eager and excited for the first week of school instead of upset over their lack of school supplies.
