Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is located in Arkansas. We are a Title 1 school. Many of the students live in poverty. About 90% of our students receive free and/or reduced-price lunch. We have many ELL students due to our population makeup. Many of the students lack exposure and vocabulary needed to succeed in science. They are very eager to learn and need the opportunities to learn in a hands-on and meaningful way. This is their first year to have a lab along with their science class. We are looking forward to a great year filled with learning many meaningful and exciting science skills.
My Project
We use glue, glue sticks and colored pencils OFTEN in our classroom. We keep notebooks that are used daily for notes and data collection in our lab experiments and colored pencils and glue help us highlight and add to important information. Because our school is 90% free and reduced lunch, most of my students are unable to provide these necessities used on a daily basis.
Non-latex gloves and digital thermometers are used in several labs done for exploration to extend our learning.
Because they are used so often, I'm hopeful to have a set of thermometers in our lab in order to prevent us from putting off labs until other classrooms are finished.
Any help that can be provided is so appreciated. My students are very excited to learn new things and I love being able to bring them the excitement in our science lab!
