My students need two Ambassador Medium Snare Side Heads, one Extended Collar Timpani Head, one Poly Ball Mallet set, and one Felt Bass Drum Mallet set.
My students are excited to have the band program back at their school after it was shut down two years ago. Two years without a band program resulted in some missing equipment and a loss of opportunities to students.
My school has a high percentage of Native American students and approximately a 60% free and reduced lunch population.
The school is in a rural area and many students do not get to experience opportunities that more highly populated areas offer. The band program at our school will offer these students some of those opportunities by exposing them to an eclectic mix of musical styles from a variety of cultures.
My Project
This DonorsChoose.org project will provide the proper equipment to allow students to express their musicality. The drum heads will be used to fix a snare drum and a timpani to bring them back to playing condition, and the new mallets will give the students enough sets of mallets to have all four percussionists playing at the same time. As a result they will be able to learn to play instruments, express themselves through music, and gain self-confidence that is so important as a young person. Additionally, students will learn creativity, critical thinking, teamwork, and many other 21st Century Skills that are essential in the 21st-century marketplace.
This project will bring opportunities to my students that will enrich their lives.
They will learn new skills, develop self confidence, improve their work habits, and experience other cultures through music as a result of having the equipment needed for a successful band program.
