My Students

Developmentally 2nd grade is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals that I get the pleasure of teaching! This group loves to write, learn new math strategies, and boogie to a fun tune to get their wiggles out every so often.

In this class, we are a whole.

We have built a community around each other’s strengths and shared experiences.

We are part of a larger whole that celebrates inclusion and individuality throughout each grade level, with whole school celebrations each month. I am one of seven 2nd grade classrooms in a Title I 2nd-6th-grade school. The work we do in this classroom is academically invigorating as we build on our community as a whole.

My Project

Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students have traditional student desks with a few options of 1 yoga ball, a lowered table with pillows to sit on, and an ottoman. My students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different areas, sitting with clip boards, or sitting or laying on the floor. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, they are more engaged, and get more work completed when they are focused. The seats I choose will allow for an additional space they so need!
