My students are such a good example of how working together and building a classroom community can make a school year fly by! Despite multiple staff changes, my students have learned so much and have become such caring and hard-working little learners. Most of my students come from the same apartment complex for low-income families, and they spend a lot of time together in and out of school. They really enjoy anything that is creative such as art and music. They often come from great, hardworking families who just don't have the resources to meet basic needs.
My Project
My students are always interested in anything that has to do with money! I want to teach them the value of money by setting up a grocery store in our dramatic play area. We would use the play money to create a “budget”. I think this would be helpful as my students don’t always have a lot of money to spend so they would be able to plan out what to buy with the money they had. The wallets and purses would be helpful as they would have a place to carry their money. They would be able to use the food, grocery cart, and cash register to go shopping and pay for their items.
