Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I school with a diverse population of students in each class. As such, there exist various levels of need among the students. With the diversity of the classroom, my students often need a quiet place to sit for a few minutes which is where the beanbags would play an important part of offering flexible seating, These are the students that have special educational needs. Even though they are in a regular classroom setting, they need a sensory break at times. So having a quiet spot in the form of flexible seating is very beneficial to the students overall. Also, having increased mobility in my teaching methods and movements makes addressing the students much easier, which is what makes certain electronics and devices much more user-friendly for my students iPads offer the students the ability to research STEM ideas and projects as well as expand their technology skills. Many of my students currently only have access to technology at school which right now limited at best. The students are benefiting from electronics to grow in the major components of STEM and literacy.

My Project

When working to inspire students with diverse needs there are times when a little creativity and out of the box thinking helps them make the learning gains and progress that helps build their confidence and inspire their progress. Not every child has the ability to learn in the traditional methods but when presented with accommodations and the ability to find their comfort zone the sky is the limit and their ability to learn becomes a real possibility. Which becomes a real opportunity when a learner is able to grow and thrive within the classroom by means of flexible seating. These bean bags will allow my students to have alternative working spots when the traditional seating is not allowing them the movement or comfort they require. Many of my special needs students simply can not sit at a desk for any length of time. So rather than disrupting the learning environment having another seating option helps keeps them on task. SO when a traditional desk doesn't work the students can move to the flexible seating and keep on working with minimal to no interruptions. Which enhances their learning and allows them to continue their learning. STEM kits would add to our science curriculum and allow the students a hands-on approach and allow them to grow their mindset and think beyond a book. Which in turn motivates their STEM and literacy learning. Fractions are a difficult math concept for most students having visuals will enhance learning and allow learners to better grasp these concepts.
