This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hello, how can I describe such a dynamic group of individuals. I serve the Hoke County High School students in Biology and Anatomy & Physiology. My biology students are inquisitive 10th graders and my Honors Anatomy & Physiology students are very driven 11th & 12th graders. The students in my classes represent all learning types, students who are visual learners, auditory, kinesthetic learners and verbal learners. Within my classroom I serve the Exceptional Child and the Academically/Intelligent & Gifted children.
My Project
Literacy plays an essential role in the scientific classroom and in the community. It is often hard to teach the necessary skills to assist students with reading and comprehension without the proper resources. We currently have magazines that offer an array of scientific topics from molecular genetics to new and emerging topics in science. However, students often struggle to comprehend the text. This project is designed to cultivate the minds of students as it relates to science, technology, engineering and math. Students will learn how to effective read, annotate and frame articles they read in their academia. They will also learn how to respond and give warm and cool feedback. It is my hope to gain resources in the classroom to promote science literacy and to help my students excel in reading comprehension.
